Canberra Potters’ Society was established in 1975 and has grown since then to become a vibrant, energetic organization serving the needs of potters and people interested in ceramics in the ACT region.
Adult classes, suitable for beginners through to experienced potters, are held during school terms Monday to Sunday, daytime and evening. Children’s classes run after school and on Saturdays during school terms. Week-long school holiday programmes are held between terms. Workshops on more specialised topics, often with national and international potters, are open to members and non-members alike.
Society members receive a monthly newsletter and 24-hour access to workshop facilities. Kiln hire, a firing service, access to an extensive library, and discounts on classes, workshops and clay are other membership benefits.
As managers of Watson Arts Centre, the Society provides access to reasonably priced gallery and studio space. The gallery presents a varied programme of exhibitions (not just ceramics) throughout the year. Exhibition proposals are always welcome.
The Society’s retail outlet, Potters Place – creations in clay, is open Thursday to Sunday and most public holidays 10am to 4pm, as is the gallery.
Canberra Potters’ Society is supported by the ACT Government. Watson Arts Centre is an ACT Government facility.
